Why is my reticle off center?

After making windage and elevation adjustments to your digital or thermal riflescope, you may have noticed the reticle is off center. This does not mean your scope has lost zero. It is simply a nuance with digital or thermal riflescopes. If you have to make drastic or extreme windage and elevation adjustments when zeroing, this can cause the reticle to be off center.

Digital riflescopes function with a sensor that works in conjunction with the display screen. The sensor and display must adjust accordingly to zero the riflescope. Because the sensor and display are different sizes, major changes in windage in elevation will cause the reticle to be off center. Yes, this can be frustrating, but your scope will still function properly. This is the nature of the beast. Next I will list a few solutions that may help to fix this issue:

• Be sure the scope is torqued to spec to the rings or mount itself, free of debris or anything that could prevent a flush mount.
• Make sure that both the scope mount/rings and your rifle's picatinny rail is a 0 MOA rail. If you had have a 20 MOA mount or 20 MOA rail, you will have major zeroing issues and could potentially bottom out your scope's Vertical zero.
• Check the mount where it attaches to the picatinny rail to make sure it is free of burrs or debris that would prevent perfect alignment. Even the smallest offset will call for major adjustments in windage and elevation when zeroing.
• Be sure the mount-to-rifle is torqued to spec so there is no room for movement.
• Try moving the Scope forward or backward within the rings/mount or picatinny slot to see if it can get you closer to zero.

If you attempt the above troubleshooting methods with success, you can factory reset the scope to wipe the old zero profiles and create new ones. Realistically, you should only have to make minor adjustments to windage and elevation to find zero.
